Headspace!
Have you ever rocked up to the gym, to find yourself frustrated, sad orĀ angry? Was it because of an email you received at work or something a work colleague said to you? Was the day unproductive and make you feel like you were getting blown around, out of control on a windy day? Let me reassure you, that you are not alone and would probably be surprised how often we hear about it as coaches.
As coaches we understand thatĀ everyone has lives outside of their hour of training, and these are the most busiest and stressful parts of our lives and that sometimes you just can’t hold back the feelings. This post will give you just a few ideas that might be able to help you, when dealing with that uneasy headspace before coming to the gym.
First one I like to do is play some music, either some really heavy metal or relaxing piano, depending on the mood, but I find it helps either get some rage out of the body or calm me to be able to bring my thoughts back down.
Secondly, take a deep breathe and remind yourself that coming to train is a place you can recharge yourself and is an opportunity for you to be able to give back to your body and mind. Don’t let a situation or someone take that away from you.
Thirdly, NEVER skip gym day. These are the days you need it most physically and emotionally and whilst training might not go to plan or feel like you are stepping up to the competition floor at the CrossFit Games, day 1, you will feel better for rocking up, sweating, socialising with some friends and just doing what you can, however that might look on the day.
So remember, staying active can help shift your mood, give you more energy, help manage those stressful situations and even help clear those thoughts before bed allowing you a good night sleep and ready to tackle the next day in a more positive and clear headspace.
